White Bump Above Tooth

Speleologists urban ...!

"It all started with the stories and legends that turned up ... mysterious rooms and tunnels that were related to each other palaces of the family Vitelli in Citta di Castello (PG)!" So begins Antonio, a member of Polyhedron, our guide to discover Caves and subterfuge ... in town!
think that ... on Town of Castle there are no underground sources, anthology, nothing! They found all by themselves! The girls working in the field of culture The cooperative Polyhedron, have put together the knowledge, curiosity and courage and venture to explore the underground city ... being aware of a heritage of great value! I attended

Io e Giosuè, siamo riusciti to get dressed properly ... to protect us from the mud, and walk a short ride from the first forazza open manhole on the street ... there penetrated by natural light and looking up we said goodbye to Sofia and Silvia had remained on the surface. In the Middle Ages it was a stretch of aqueduct, now at the bottom of the rainwater flow passage ... and the experienced staff we set for the sewer plant maintenance in the duct. On either side of the tunnel where the remains of the hooks ran the old phone line.

newly resurfaced ... we headed to the Palazzo Vitelli a Sant'Egidio icebox ... here, once going into a grove, the adventure has been able ... to open the door! Nothing to do ... in unexpected way! We can imagine that this cave from 1500 until the end of 1800 kept the ice used for food and health! At one time they used the ice to fight the fever!
The technique of preservation of the ice has reached us by the ancient Romans! Those of you who remember how we did in tabernae of Ostia Antica?

The funny thing was that another group of participants in the visit, a butcher in Citta di Castello, told us that he also has his studio in the basement of an old refrigerator ... natural! We continue to discover ... Special City underground!

Then we head northwest towards the walls, we come out of the gate of S. Andrea and we holed into a bastion of the wall: it was an armory. Antonella, here in the dark, teaches us that: "The effect of gunpowder urbanism was that suddenly became useless fortifications, that the walls and towers through which you can control who is neared the city, and regulate the entrance through the doors. Before the invention of gunpowder for military occupation of a city under siege and it was necessary to wait for the people end up food stocks. With gunpowder were built guns and bullets can easily meet the fortified walls, making them useless in terms of defense and allowing easy targets to hit inside, destroying and occupying the city easily impressed. The boundary walls around the cities of the works have become useless. "

Finally we come, through the Corso Vittorio Emanuele among the astonished gaze of the people walking through purchases (we with torches and boots ..), via the Tower Botte.
They say ... "then you'll understand why it's called that!"
Again we go to a private home, to greet the owner in person ... and ... hell broke loose! No, I say! Buried earth!
Under the garden of the house purchased in 2000 and threatens to dig ... .. come to light 900 square meters of underground city, in perfect condition, local, towers, vaults, stairs, tunnels ... another city !

... 10 years of work under the direction of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage!
And we have been able to visit .. thanks to the curiosity of members of the Cooperative Polyhedron that having practically in front of the office, they asked ... day after day: "What will happen here that dig, dig ..." An incredible story! Also judging from the face of the other participants of the ... almost all locals, who have potuto risolvere l'arcano dei lavori in cima a V. Torrione della Botte! Attoniti!
